Day 5: Kayaking with Dolphins & Painted Church

Cody and I headed down to Kona Friday morning. Along the way, I read about how awesome the kayaking is at a bay just south of the city, and occasionally lends a chance to see dolphins. Even though we were 'dressed like tourists' we headed out in the kayak. Almost instantly, we had a bout of soggy bottom, but we both agreed it was well worth it. These pictures don't do it justice. After that, we hurried to see a very quaint little church, known as the Painted Church and as we sped back to catch our whale cruise, we past a penny press. (Yay, first pennies! Sadly, Cody had to run in alone while my shorts were drying in the car).
Beautiful bay that neither one of us can pronouce

Headed out toward the monument

And there they are! The pod was about 20 strong

This was one of Cody's very favorite moments of the trip

After the pod resurfaced in a coordinated fashion

Here I am not paddling (according to Cody, I wasn't that useful anyway)

No zoom here, hence the edge of the kayak

Yellow tang? The water was extraordinarily clear near the monument
Cody still loving the experience

Captain Cook Monument

Soggy bottoms (at least one of us wore fast-drying shorts!)

Painted Church, only of the oldest churches on the island
a very religious kitty

inside the lovely little church

the cemetery and grounds
We made it on the boat! (Here's proof that Cody DID put on sunscreen)

Glass bottom produced notta that day

excited!

enjoying the free Mai Tais

More to come later. I'm on shift the next few days so don't hold your breath...
